A Ludo board with red and yellow pawns and a big white dice showing six

The family board game, now over a link

Ludo is the board game half the world knows under a local name: Parchís in Spain, Petits chevaux in France, Kızma Birader in Turkey, Cờ cá ngựa in Vietnam. The idea is always the same. Roll the dice, bring your pawns out of the yard, race them once round the board and up your own coloured lane, and get them all home before your friend does.

On BeatMe you play it with a link. Start a game, send it in any chat, and your friend joins in the browser. Play live together, or take your turns whenever you have a minute: every throw, every hop and every pawn sent back to the start plays back when the other one looks again. The dice are thrown on our server, so nobody can fake a six.

How to play Ludo

Start and send the link

Pick 2 pawns each for a quick game or 4 for the classic one, then send the beatme.link link. You are red, your friend is yellow.

Roll a six to come out

A pawn leaves the yard only on a 6. With no pawn on the board you get three tries. Every 6 earns another roll, but three 6s in a row end your turn.

Race and knock them out

Move a pawn as many squares as you rolled. Land on your friend’s pawn and it goes back to its yard, unless it stands on a star or a start square. A capture earns another roll.

Bring them all home

After one lap your pawns turn into your coloured lane. Home needs the exact number. The first player with every pawn home wins.

Ludo tips

  • Get pawns out early. A 6 is a choice: a new pawn out, or six squares for one already running. Two pawns on the board give you options on every roll.
  • Use the stars. Stars and start squares are safe. Parking on one right in front of a rival pawn is the safest place on the board.
  • Stay out of reach. A pawn one to six squares in front of a rival can be caught with a single roll. Further away is safer, and behind it is safest.
  • Hunt near their home. A pawn caught just before its lane loses almost a whole lap. That is the capture that wins games.
  • Don’t forget the exact number. Pawns deep in your lane need exact rolls, so keep another pawn on the board to use the big numbers.

Fair dice for both

Every throw comes from our server, for both players, and the page only learns a number once it is rolled. Moves are checked on the server too, so nobody can move a pawn that isn’t allowed to move or skip a turn.

Ludo FAQ

Can I play Ludo online with a friend for free?

Yes. Start a game on this page, send the link and your friend plays in their browser. Free, no app, no account.

Do we have to play at the same time?

No. Play live if you are both online, or take your turns whenever you like. The board shows everything that happened since your last look.

Do I need a six to start?

Yes, a pawn comes out of the yard only on a 6. While you have no pawn on the board you get three tries per turn to roll it.

What happens when I land on the other player?

Their pawn goes back to its yard and you roll again. Pawns on stars and start squares are safe.

How many pawns does each player have?

Four in the classic game, or two in the quick game, which takes about half as long.

Is it fair?

Yes. The dice are thrown on our server for both players, and every move is checked there.
